Fresh off his leading role in Quentin Tarantino’s hit Western Django Unchained, Oscar winner Jamie Foxx is branching out into horror — on SyFy of all places. Foxx is set to write, direct and executive produce a horror anthology miniseries for the cable channel, to air during its annual 31 Days of Halloween marathon. The as-yet-untitled show will consist of five half-hour episodes that SyFy describes as “in the vein of television classics like Tales from the Crypt and The Twilight Zone” full of “creepy morality tales with themes such as envy, jealousy and superficiality.”

Since Showtime renewed Dexter for two more seasons two years ago, it's been widely assumed that the upcoming Season 8 would be the final one for the acclaimed serial killer drama. And now, to almost no one's surprise, that assumption has come to fruition. Showtime has confirmed that the series is ending its run this summer -- or rather, early fall, given the June 30 premiere means the show will likely finish up in late September or early October. Unlike most shows, Dexter will be going out at or near its peak: Season 7 was its highest rated to date, with the season finale bringing in the most viewers the show has ever had. Although I enjoy Dexter, I think it's at a good stopping point, and kudos to the suits at Showtime for not extending it unnecessarily just because its ratings have been strong.

We may never get another Ghostbusters or another Men in Black film, but in to fill that supernatural action-comedy void is R.I.P.D., the comic book adaptation starring Jeff Bridges and Ryan Reynolds as dead cops who track down ghostly criminals. And now we have our first look at a trailer for the movie, which hits theaters on July 19. It may not look original, but it looks fun enough.

Instant gratifiers, rejoice. All 13 episodes of Netflix’s upcoming horror series Hemlock Grove will be available on the streaming service at the same time, starting this Friday, April 19. I got a chance to watch the first three episodes, and I’ve got to say it’s worth checking out. Despite some uneven acting, the show so far is an involving mystery populated by quirky characters. It comes off like True Blood meets Grimm meets Teen Wolf meets Twin Peaks — a formula that, while perhaps not completely original, is at least undeniably intriguing. Check out the characters and episode summaries to learn more.
