There’s never been a better time for horror television shows, and now TNT is jumping on the bandwagon, developing a series based on Dean Koontz’s Frankenstein books. Much like the recent report of the adaptation of Guillermo del Toro’s Strain books into a TV show, Frankenstein is also coming full circle, having initially been written as a potential TV series but ending up as only a 2004 made-for-TV movie on the USA network starring Vincent Perez and Parker Posey and directed by Marcus Nispel (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Friday the 13th). When it wasn’t picked up as a full series, Koontz turned the story into a series of books — five and counting.

We’ve got our first official look at the upcoming remake of Carrie — not only a nifty teaser poster (right), but also a cool  teaser trailer that hints at the film’s fiery climax. Chloe Grace Moretz stars in the titular role of the bullied telekinetic teen, and Julianne Moore plays her domineering mother. Catch it in theaters starting March 15, 2013.

After a troubled, drawn-out production process that saw the series pulled from the fall 2012 TV schedule, NBC has decided to air the one-hour pilot episode for Mockingbird Lane on Friday, October 26 at 8:00 PM ET/PT. The show was to be an edgy reboot of the '60s comedy The Munsters, created using the artistic vision of Bryan Fuller (Pushing Daisies), whose final product (described as True Blood meets Modern Family meets Pushing Daisies) reportedly conflicted with the vision of the network. Now, it's unclear if Mockingbird Lane will be a show at all or if NBC will just leave it as a one-off mini-movie.

Airborne is an action-mystery-horror hybrid from the UK starring Luke Skywalker himself, Mark Hamill, sporting what may or may not be a British accent (It comes and goes. Mostly goes.). But that’s not the worst thing in the movie. Read about it in my review of Airborne.

The best thing I can say for the new found footage film Greystone Park is that it will help me fill out my year-end “worst of 2012” list. Read about it in my review of Greystone Park.

The first major horror release of the Halloween season, Sinister opened strong with an estimated $18.3 million -- good enough for third place at the box office. Sinister joins the ever-growing list of recent microbudget horror movies that have become breakthrough successes, following the likes of Insidious, The Devil Inside, The Last Exorcism and, of course, the Paranormal Activity series.

More Than Meets the Eye: Smiley Movie Review

I’m not going to pretend that the slasher movie Smiley some great piece of horror cinema — in fact, I’d wager that most genre fans dislike (if not vehemently hate) it — but I feel obliged to submit a counter viewpoint that goes beyond the admittedly mediocre execution of horror elements and cuts to the core of a film that is introspective, borderline existential and, dare I say, downright “deep.” Read about it in my review of Smiley, which opens today in select AMC Theaters.
