The divisive found footage anthology V/H/S is still in theaters and on demand, but it’s already spawning a sequel. According to The Hollywood Reporter, producers are wasting little time planning V/H/S 2, signing on indie directors Eduardo Sanchez (The Blair Witch Project), Adam Wingard (A Horrible Way to Die), Gareth Evans (The Raid: Redemption), Jason Eisener (Hobo with a Shotgun), Timo Tjahjanto (the Indonesian film Macabre) and Simon Barrrett (writer of Wingard’s A Horrible Way to Die and You’re Next).

Chances are when you see an Amber Alert on the highway, your attention perks up for a minute or two with the thought that you might see the suspect car, knowing good and well it will never happen, but what if you actually did spot it? What if it was just a few yards in front of you? That’s the intriguing concept behind Amber Alert, the latest in the now-ubiquitous “found footage” style of film. Read about it in my review of Amber Alert, which is currently playing on demand and opens in select theaters on Friday, November 2.

Sometimes I think that Stephen King writes at such a hectic pace just to keep up with the film and TV adaptations that will eventually claim everything he's ever penned (Stephen King's Grocery List: The Movie!). The latest is "Gramma," a short story from the Skeleton Crew anthology that has spawned The Mist and the Creepshow 2 segment "The Raft." "Gramma" is being adapted into a feature film entitled Mercy that's to be directed by Peter Cornwell (The Haunting in Connecticut), written by Matt Greenberg (1408, Halloween H2O) and produced by low-budget horror hitmaker Jason Blum (Paranormal Activity, Insidious, Sinister).

It may not even be Halloween yet, but it's not too early to get your Christmas list ready, and if you're a fan of classic suspense, there's no better idea than the Blu-ray box set Alfred Hitchcock: The Masterpiece Collection. Releasing on Tuesday, October 30, this set gathers the best of legendary director Alfred Hitchcock's Universal films -- including the seminal Psycho, The Birds, Rear Window, Vertigo and North By Northwest -- on 15 discs with more than 15 hours of special features. But apparently, it will be available only for a limited time; it's enough to make you go mad. But then again, we all go a little mad sometimes...don't we? Read about it in my review of Alfred Hitchcock: The Masterpiece Collection.

Silent Hill: Revelation had a weak opening at the box office this past weekend, finishing in fifth place with an estimated $8 million — less than half of the $20 million the first Silent Hill made six years ago on the same number of screens. That figure is even worse if you factor in Revelation‘s elevated 3-D ticket prices, but on the bright side, its budget was also less than half of Silent Hill‘s (reportedly around $20 million), so it could very easily still turn a profit. Also moderately good news: at least it didn’t perform as poorly as two other new wide releases: Chasing Mavericks and Fun Size, the former of which had one of the 10 worst openings of all time for movies in 2,000-plus theaters and the latter of which had one of the three worst openings of all time for movies in 3,000-plus theaters.
