Silent Hill: Revelation Silenced at Box Office

Silent Hill: Revelation had a weak opening at the box office this past weekend, finishing in fifth place with an estimated $8 million — less than half of the $20 million the first Silent Hill made six years ago on the same number of screens. That figure is even worse if you factor in Revelation‘s elevated 3-D ticket prices, but on the bright side, its budget was also less than half of Silent Hill‘s (reportedly around $20 million), so it could very easily still turn a profit. Also moderately good news: at least it didn’t perform as poorly as two other new wide releases: Chasing Mavericks and Fun Size, the former of which had one of the 10 worst openings of all time for movies in 2,000-plus theaters and the latter of which had one of the three worst openings of all time for movies in 3,000-plus theaters.
