With its limited distribution, the Irish horror movie Citadel will likely get little notice when it opens on October 26 opposite Silent Hill: Revelation and a week after the juggernaut known as Paranormal Activity 4, but it’s one of my more eagerly anticipated films of the year. It’s about an agoraphobic man who must venture outside to save his family from a (potentially supernatural) hooded gang, and won the Midnighter Audience Award at this year’s SXSW Film Festival, so at the very least, it’s a crowd pleaser. Check out the new trailer.

Fans of The Woman in Black, The Orphanage and The Others might want to check out The Awakening, a similarly situated period ghost story set in the 1920s about a skeptical woman investigating reports of a haunting at a boys boarding school. Read about it in my review of The Awakening.

Universal is handling distribution, so it should be a wide release, with notable stars Jessica Chastain (The Help) and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Game of Thrones) headlining.

I tend to defend Hollywood when the subject of remakes comes up, but a recent rash of copycat-itis is trying my patience. Not only are there two competing Dracula TV shows and two competing TV shows from the Silence of the Lambs universe in development, but now there are also two shows based on the Washington Irving story “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.” Following reports of Fox bringing the tale to life on the small screen comes word that The CW is also working on a show called Sleepy Hollow…
