This week, the thriller A Perfect Getaway opens in theaters, while Obsessed, Mutant Chronicles and Nature’s Grave head the video releases.
If you haven’t seen the 1978 Australian nature-gone-amok film Long Weekend, the remake Nature’s Grave is a decent alternative, a straightforward interpretation of the tale of a selfish couple’s comeuppance via nature’s wrath. Read about it in my review of Nature’s Grave.

It looks like 20th Century Fox has gotten its way by convincing original Alien director Ridley Scott to return to helm the upcoming prequel, despite his reported insistence that commercial director Carl Erik Rinsch direct the film. Great news? Sure, but who will fanboys blame if the movie doesn’t turn out as good as Alien? Maybe screenwriter Jon Spaihts, who has several projects in the works but has yet to write a finished product.

Earlier this week, it was announced that Rachelle Lefevre, who’s played villain Victoria in Twilight and the upcoming sequel New Moon, was being replaced by Bryce Howard (The Village) for the remaining films in the series. Scheduling conflicts were cited by the studio, but that apparently was news to Lefevre, who issued a statement stating that while she had indeed accepted a role in another film, it was a small role that fit within the Twilight shooting schedule and was within her contractual rights.
Well, the folks at Warner Brothers have given us our first official look at the new Freddy Krueger, as played by Jackie Earle Haley, and it’s really…dark. Like, so dark you can’t even make him out. Talk about a tease. Oh well, only NINE MONTHS until the Nightmare on Elm Street remake opens on April 30, 2010. Sigh.
