The announcements for the 2010 After Dark Horrorfest are coming fast and furious. Earlier this week, there was The Graves, and now there’s Dread, a Clive Barker-produced adaptation of one of the stories from his Books of Blood series (which also produced Midnight Meat Train, Lord of Illusions, Candyman, the upcoming Book of Blood and more). The Dread follows three college students who set out to produce a documentary about fear, only to find themselves — wait for it — the subjects of an experiment in fear! Look for all the Horrorfest films in theaters in January 2010.

The parents in the movie Orphan are named John and Kate, but their life makes the couple on the reality TV show Jon & Kate Plus 8 look like a cake walk by comparison. Read about their troubles in my review of Orphan.
The 2009 Toronto International Film Festival lineup has been announced, and not only is George Romero‘s new zombie movie featured, but lo and behold, it has a name: Survival of the Dead. Also featured amongst the annual fest’s horror offerings is Jennifer’s Body (pictured), Daybreakers and the sequel to [REC], the Spanish film that inspired Quarantine. Those of you in the Toronto area during the week of September 10-19 can catch the thrills — Canadian style, eh?
With a flurry of quality zombie movies in recent years, I thought it prudent to update my top 20 zombie movies list to make it a top 30 (!) list. You purists will be happy to see that Dawn of the Dead made the list, at last.
