Earlier this week, it was announced that Rachelle Lefevre, who’s played villain Victoria in Twilight and the upcoming sequel New Moon, was being replaced by Bryce Howard (The Village) for the remaining films in the series. Scheduling conflicts were cited by the studio, but that apparently was news to Lefevre, who issued a statement stating that while she had indeed accepted a role in another film, it was a small role that fit within the Twilight shooting schedule and was within her contractual rights.
Summit Entertainment promptly replied, “Ohnoshedi’int,” claiming that Lefevre had withheld news of her other movie from them for some time and that when she told them, the studio did not approve of her leaving the country to film, as it conflicted with rehearsals. With all the he-said-they-said, it’s hard to know who to believe, but seeing as how director Catherine Hardwicke left New Moon under similarly suspicious circumstances last year, it seems like Summit is making of habit of coming up with convenient excuses to force out “difficult” talent — and in the case of Lefevre, upgrading to a bigger star.
