Attached to Devil this past weekend was the first trailer for The Roommate, the upcoming “fatal attraction” thriller that seems destined to be this generation’s Single White Female. Not that that’s a bad thing. The movie stars Minka Kelly and Leighton Meester and hits theaters on February 4, 2011.

Columbia pictures is moving ahead with plans to adapt the Goosebumps series of horror-themed adolescent books into at least one movie — and no doubt more, given the franchise’s 100-plus entries and spin-offs. Prolific author R.L. Stine — a sort of Stephen King for the pre-teen crowd — won’t be penning the script, however. Those duties go to screenwriter Carl Ellsworth, who wrote Disturbia, Red Eye and a couple of remakes: the upcoming Red Dawn and The Last House on the Left. With that resumé, you have to wonder if Ellsworth’s rendering of Goosebumps might be a bit edgier than you’d think. There’s no word on which book the movie will adapt, if any, nor what the target date for release would be.

Last season on the horror/suspense TV front certainly had its fair share of cliffhangers — including death, deception, parallel universe swapping and visits to Hell — so suffice it to say, the new fall season is eagerly anticipated. So, now that we’ve had a day to digest it all, what did you think of Season 3 of True Blood? Did anyone besides me feel like the reins were handed over to a completely new staff of writers this year? The entire season just had a different vibe: campy, over the top, almost tongue in cheek? (Bill’s Peter Pan wire work in the final episode had me rolling.)

Before the Internet, movie trailers were things you saw only in theaters or on TV, and the edgier and “cultier” the horror movie, the less likely it would receive TV time. That’s where movies like Mad Ron’s Prevues from Hell came in. Made in 1987 and just now hitting DVD, it’s like opening a time capsule to the horror movies of yesteryear. It pretty much flopped at the box office, but you can catch The Vampire’s Assistant, an adaptation of the Cirque du Freak books, on TV this week when it debuts on Saturday, September 18, at 10:00 PM ET/PT on Cinemax. Also premiering that night is Vacancy 2, at 9:00 PM ET/PT on SyFy.
