With primary casting for The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D winding down, a new Leatherface has been crowned. Newcomer Dan Yeager, a towering presence at 6' 6", will don the meat mask and pick up the iconic chainsaw, winning the role after a chance meeting with director John Lussenhop that obviously made a big impression on the filmmaker.

Universal Drops Plans for Dark Tower

What was once one of the most ambitious projects developed in Hollywood since, well, ever -- the multi-platform adaptation of Stephen King's The Dark Tower series as a movie trilogy AND a TV show (or two!) -- is now in danger of not being made at all. Deadline is reporting that Universal (which earlier this year shelved Guillermo del Toro's At the Mountains of Madness) has dropped the project altogether, no doubt due to the riskiness of such a big-budget, long-term commitment.

Catch the Trailer for Contagion!

Gathering one of the most impressive casts of any film this year — including Matt Damon, Laurence Fishburne, Jude Law, Gwyneth Paltrow and Kate Winslet — Contagion might be the closest Steven Soderbergh will ever come to directing horror/suspense, outside of 2002’s Solaris. It’s an ensemble epic about a global pandemic’s impact on everyone from the government to the relief workers to the infected to the paranoid survivors. It looks sort of like Outbreak meets Traffic, and judging from the trailer, it looks pretty intense. Contagion infects theaters — in 3D! — on September 9.

Those of you not in the throes of puberty might not realize it, but Teen Wolf has been MTV’s highest-rated new show of the season (granted, I can’t name another MTV show that premiered this season), doubling the ratings the channel earned in the 10:00 PM Monday slot with its previous occupant. As such, MTV has renewed it for a second season, ordering another 12 episodes to air in 2012. I’ve caught a few episodes of Teen Wolf, and while I can’t say it’s as compelling as the similarly themed Vampire Diaries, if this means less Jersey Shore, My Super Sweet 16 and The Challenge, I’m all for it.
