A pair of promising horror movies featuring Oscar-caliber personnel are one step closer to hitting the big screen. The US distribution rights to House at the End of the Street, starring Academy Award nominee Jennifer Lawrence (Winter’s Bone), and The Bay, directed by Oscar winner Barry Levinson (Rain Man), were both snatched up this week.

The Norwegian "found footage" film The Troll Hunter finally has a US release date: June 10. It will hit a limited number of theaters starting on that date but will be available on demand a month earlier -- as has become the custom with Magnolia Pictures releases -- beginning on May 6.

The cast for the upcoming based-on-a-video-game sequel Silent Hill: Revelation is rounding out nicely, with the recent additions of Carrie-Anne Moss (The Matrix, Memento, Disturbia) and Malcolm McDowell (A Clockwork Orange, Cat People, Halloween). Moss will play Claudia Wolf, who in the video game Silent Hill 3 (upon which Silent Hill: Revelation is based) was a cult priestess and the storyline’s main antagonist . McDowell will play her father, Leonard Wolf. Silent Hill: Revelation is slated to hit screens (in 3-D) on February 24, 2012.

Spanish filmmaker Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, who directed the infection sequel 28 Weeks Later and the acclaimed thriller Intacto, has signed on to helm what Relativity calls a “re-invention” of the comic book adaptation The Crow.
