The British sci fi-horror-comedy Attack the Block was a hit at this year’s South by Southwest Film Festival, and now it’s inching closer to being released officially in the US. Sony Pictures’ subsidiary Screen Gems has picked up the rights to the film for US distribution. No word yet on when it will hit the states (it opens in the UK in May), but hopefully we’ll see it before the end of the year.

The big screen version of the bestselling young adult novel The Hunger Games has its main stars set.
- Jennifer Lawrence (Winter's Bone) will star as Katniss Everdeen, a 16-year-old girl living in a post-apocalyptic world who volunteers to take the place of her younger sister in the annual Hunger Games, which pits teens against one another in a fight to the death.
- Josh Hutcherson (The Vampire's Assistant, The Kids Are Alright) will play Peeta Mellark, a schoolmate of Katniss' whom she must battle for the District title, although she has affections for him.
- Liam Hemsworth (Triangle, Knowing) will play Gale Hawthorne, an older friend -- and possible competing love interest -- of Katniss'.

And the shuffling continues. Following recently announced delays for Apollo 18 and Piranha 3DD, the alien invasion pic The Darkest Hour — from director Chris Gorak (whose tense dirty bomb thriller Right at Your Door featured an “invasion” of a different kind) — has been pushed from its original August 5 release date to December 23.
