The upcoming remake of the groundbreaking 1970 British thriller And Soon the Darkness has a release date: December 17…and December 28? That’s right; it’s landing on home video only 11 days after it hits (a presumably small number of) theaters. The film has a cast solid enough for a wide theatrical release — Amber Heard, Karl Urban, Odette Yustman — but for whatever reason, it’s essentially being relegated to direct-to-video status. We’ll find out in December whether that’s warranted or not.

Hatchet II made a bit of noise when it was announced that the AMC theater chain would be releasing the slasher sequel uncut and unrated across the country (and in Canada), a bit of a coup for filmmakers who constantly have to deal with the whims of MPAA censorship.

In a recent interview with Fangoria, Australian writer/director Greg McLean announced that he’s working on a sequel to his 2005 shocker Wolf Creek. Like the original, Wolf Creek 2 will be based on a true story and will feature the the same reprehensible Outback villain — Mick Taylor — who tortured and/or killed the stranded tourists in the first film.
