Tom Cruise to Star in Van Helsing Reboot

A month ago, it was revealed that Universal was working on a reboot of The Mummy, and now word comes that the studio is revisiting one of its not-quite-classic monster movies: the much-derided 2004 Hugh Jackman vehicle Van Helsing. This time around, though, Tom Cruise — not Jackman – is in line to star (and produce). There are few details beyond that, but let’s hope that this reboot has the same philosophy as the upcoming Mummy film: that is, focusing more on the dark, horror roots of the story rather than the effects-heavy blockbuster-styled action. I can’t say I’m optimistic.
