At a recent book signing for his eagerly anticipated new book Under the Dome, legendary horror author Stephen King was videotaped tossing out the possibility that the mammoth novel could become “an HBO series.” He didn’t follow up on that tantalizing nugget to clarify whether he meant a TV show or a miniseries, or at what stage of the process this deal lies, so we’re left to speculate…

You wouldn’t think that they could make a TV show out of one book, but since Under the Dome — about a small town suddenly cut off from the world by an invisible “dome” — is over 1,000 pages, there’s two or three novels’ worth of material in there. And a show could go the route of Dexter, which has taken basically only one of its four seasons from a book; the rest has merely been inspired by the Dexter literary characters. With HBO finding success with True Blood, it wouldn’t be far-fetched to think that they’d take a chance on another genre show, especially one with King’s name attached.
