Marlon Wayans’ “found footage” horror spoof A Haunted House was the first surprise hit of 2013, earning $40 million on only a $2.5 million budget — despite its dubious quality. Although the film’s box office gross wasn’t earth-shattering, the ultra-low cost has earned it a sequel. Open Road Films has tentatively slated it for “winter 2014,” which presumably means January (the same month in which the first movie opened) or February rather than December. There’s no word on a plot yet, but you have to wonder how much more material within the found footage genre there is to mine for parody.
