After breakout ratings for its first two episodes, it should come as no surprise that AMC has picked up its hit zombie TV show The Walking Dead for a second season. Even better news, though, is the fact that Season 2 will feature more than twice as many episodes — 13 — as Season 1, so get ready for twice the the undead excitement and twice the  innards!

The zombie television series The Walking Dead premiered on Sunday night to the best ratings in AMC’s history — a history that includes critical darlings Mad Men and Breaking Bad. The numbers — 5.3 million viewers and a 3.3 in the valued 18-to-49 demographic — also represented the biggest debut of any cable series this year. A second season is virtually guaranteed, especially considering AMC has already held a contest to win a walk-on role for Season 2.

The alien invasion film Skyline doesn’t hit theaters until November 12, but a sequel is already on the drawing board. Since directors Colin and Greg Strause made the film on their own outside of the studio system (thanks to their owning their own special effects company), they have the freedom to greenlight their own sequel.
