Cuba might not be the first place (or second or third or fourth) you think of when you think of a zombie movie, but a new flick is out to change that. Juan of the Dead (a play on Shaun of the Dead, itself a play on Dawn of the Dead) is an upcoming zombie comedy (“zom com”) coming straight out of Havana, and as the first full trailer reveals, it’s no shoestring budget production. With a cost of over $2 million, it’s actually a blockbuster-sized project by Cuban standards.

The Bloody Disgusting Selects series continues to add titles to its stable of horror movies. The latest is The Woman, directed by respected genre filmmaker Lucky McKee (Red, May, The Woods). The Woman is a sequel to the cannibal film Offspring, which was based on the Jack Ketchum novel of the same name and was one of the 2009 Ghost House Underground releases. Unlike Offspring, The Woman, about the last surviving member of a cannibal family (Pollyanna McIntosh, reprising her role) who is taken in by a lawyer who thinks he can “civilize” her, will receive a limited theatrical run — presumably sometime this fall.

According to Variety, Alexandra Daddario is all but set to play the female lead (the "final girl") in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D. Daddario is probably best known for her co-starring role in Percy Jackson and the Olympians, but horror fans might recognize her as the lead in Bereavement (hitting DVD August 30), where she displayed the same sort of talent (ahem) for fleeing from a maniacal serial killer while clad in a form-fitted white tank top that Jessica Biel utilized so effectively in the 2003 remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Production on TCM3D is set to begin this month, with a theatrical release planned for October 5, 2012.
