The Bay Has a New Poster, Release Date and Trailer

Normally, another modestly budgeted found footage horror movie wouldn’t be particularly noteworthy, but the eco-horror film The Bay doesn’t have a “normal” behind-the-scenes horror movie pedigree. It’s produced by the team of Jason Blum and Steven Schneider, who brought us the Paranormal Activity franchise and Insidious, and is directed by Academy Award-winner Barry Levinson (Rain Man, The Natural, Good Morning, Vietnam, Sphere). The Bay had been sitting on Lionsgate’s schedule without a date for some time before moving to Roadside Attractions for distribution, which unfortunately pretty much guarantees a much smaller release.

Hey, It’s a Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters Trailer!

Pushed all the way back from March 2012 to January 11, 2013 -- presumably to take advantage of Jeremy Renner's star-building roles in The Avengers and The Bourne Legacy -- the release of Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters is finally closing in, and now we have the first trailer. It looks promising in a blockbuster-y, CGI-strewn, action-horror hybrid sort of way, but it can't seem to shake the stink of the similar-looking Van Helsing. I'm holding out hope, though, that director Tommy Wirkola (Dead Snow) will deliver something more palatable than that Stephen Sommers flick.

New Texas Chainsaw 3D Poster Reveals Many Faces, New Title?

Same movie, less massacre? The film formerly known as The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D — conceived as a direct sequel to Tobe Hooper’s original movie — has a new poster, revealing not only a host of Leatherface’s victims, but more importantly, what seems to be a new, more concise title: Texas Chainsaw 3D. I can only imagine this change came about as the result of some focus group and the perceived lack of mainstream appeal of the term “massacre,” but really, how mainstream can a movie about a murdering clan of cannibals who sometimes wear the skinned faces of their victims be?

Flatline: Coma Miniseries Review

Even though A&E doesn’t have the original-programming pedigree of, say, AMC (granted, some might think a 24-hour loop of Storage Wars is Nirvana), I had high hopes for Coma, a miniseries with a big-name cast and behind-the-scenes personnel. Sadly, like many remakes, this one disappoints — read about it in my review — but at least you won’t have to spend $11.50 and drive to a theater to see it. It airs starting tonight at 9:oo PM ET/PT and concluding tomorrow (September 4) at the same time.

New Date, Trailer, Poster for Joe Dante’s The Hole

Completed way back in 2009, The Hole seemed to drop down a hole distribution-wise for three years, but now it will finally crawl out to see the light of day. It will hit DVD, Blu-ray and on-demand services on October 2, with a nominal (read: limited) theatrical release the week before, on September 28.
