Check Out the Crazy Trailer for The Collection

I wasn’t a fan of The Collector, in part because the concept was so ridiculous, but watching the trailer for The Collection, it strikes me that INCREASING the ridiculousness — as this sequel seems to do — rather than decreasing it, might be the way to go. The Collection appears to amp up the action and the body count to a level that matches the outlandishness of the concept, and so, although I disliked the first movie, I have to admit that I’m hopeful about this new film. We’ll see if I’m right when The Collection hits theaters on November 30.

Lionsgate has announced new release dates for two of its 2013 horror releases. The action-horror hybrid I, Frankenstein — starring Aaron Eckart as the classic monster in modern times, who “finds himself caught in an all-out, centuries old war between two immortal clans” — has been bumped from February 22 to September 13 to to make room for The Rock’s next actioner Snitch (distributed by Lionsgate’s newly acquired Summit Entertainment). Meanwhile, the buzz-worthy home invasion movie You’re Next — from the folks behind A Horrible Way to Die — has finally received a concrete release date: August 23.

With the fall TV season set to kick into high gear, you might be wondering when your favorite (or soon-to-be-favorite) horror/suspense shows will premiere. Well, here’s a handy summary for your viewing pleasure. Unfortunately, all but one of the new shows — 666 Park Avenue — are slated for mid-season (or possibly later, especially in the case of the eagerly anticipated Munsters reboot, Mockingbird Lane). For details on the new shows, check out my rundown.  Note: All times are ET/PT.

If you, like me, were thoroughly disappointed in Shark Night 3D last year, you might want to check out the Australian sharks-in-a-store film Bait 3D, which hits DVD/Blu-ray today. It's no Jaws, but it's also no Jersey Shore Shark Attack. Read about it in my review of Bait 3D.

New Trailers for Texas Chainsaw 3D and Mama

Happy early new year! We’ve got trailers for two of the first major horror movies of 2013: Texas Chainsaw 3D (January 4) and Mama (January 18). Although the former will no doubt get the bulk of the publicity — and indeed, the trailer looks promising (though I still have trouble getting past the fact that Leatherface should be a senior citizen by now) — it’s the latter’s ghostly trailer that oozes with the potential of being bone-chillingly terrifying. Guillermo del Toro’s involvement as producer can’t hurt its odds.

“Ouch! My dignity!”

The titles of the movies in the Resident Evil series rarely seem to have anything to do with their actual plots, but in the case of Resident Evil: Retribution, I suspect it embodies vengeance against anyone who enjoys good filmmaking, a well-thought out script or acting above the level of a middle school play. Read about it in my review of Resident Evil: Retribution.
