Seventh Son, the big-screen adaptation of Joseph Delaney's Last Apprentice book series about a wizened monster hunter (played by Jeff Bridges in the film) training a young apprentice, is the latest movie to land in Distribution Hell. Previously bumped from February of this year to October and then to January 17, 2014, the film has now been pulled from the schedule altogether. The good news is that the delay this time around isn't due to the studio's lack of confidence in the film, but rather because the the studio itself has changed.

Of all the recent young adult novel adaptations, The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones is the latest. With a more than two-hour running time, it's so overstuffed that the titular City of Bones has only about five minutes of relevance to the plot. Horror fans are in the midst of a new golden age of haunted house and ghost films, with The Conjuring, Mama, Sinister and the Insidious and Paranormal Activity films mining spooky spirits for box office gold. In that mold comes the low-budget, direct-to-video film An American Ghost Story, which, like Sinister, revolves around a writer who moves into a home that was the site of a murder. Meanwhile, on home video, Evidence, Alyce Kills, An American Ghost Story, No One Lives and several Jesus Franco cult films lead the way.
