Horror fans are in the midst of a new golden age of haunted house and ghost films, with The Conjuring, Mama, Sinister and the Insidious and Paranormal Activity films mining spooky spirits for box office gold. In that mold comes the low-budget, direct-to-video film An American Ghost Story, which, like Sinister, revolves around a writer who moves into a home that was the site of a murder.
