OK, maybe it’s not the best zombie movie ever, but the Norwegian film Dead Snow has the extreme gore, the rapid pace and the wicked humor to at least put it in the conversation as one of the greats. Read all about it in my review of Dead Snow.

Given upcoming remakes of The Wolf Man and Creature from the Black Lagoon, it should come as no surprise that another Universal monster movie classic, Bride of Frankenstein, has been tapped for a remake. Neil Burger (The Illusionist) is in talks to both write and direct the remake of the sequel, which many believe to be superior to the first Frankenstein film.
I’m a bit skeptical of the remake’s appeal, though, for a number of reasons:
- The story is less known and beloved than some of the other Universal monster movies.

This week, it’s winter in June as the Norwegian zombie flick Dead Snow receives a limited release. DVDs meanwhile are dominated by a slew of Friday the 13th movies, led by the 2009 remake of the slasher classic. Also, the sequel The Cell 2 goes direct to DVD.
