Casting News: Woman in Black 2, American Horror Story, Dexter, The Strain

Here’s the rundown on some recent horror/suspsense casting announcements of note:

• Oscar nominee Gabourey Sidibe (Precious) has signed on for the third season of American Horror Story, although, like almost everything surrounding the upcoming season, details remain under wraps. Season 3 is subtitled Coven, so it’s widely presumed the storyline will revolve around witches. 
• Jeremy Irvine (War Horse) will star in The Woman in Black: Angel of Death, the sequel to the hit ghost story The Woman in Black that picks up four decades after the first film.
• Veteran actor Julian Sands (Warlock, Arachnophobia) will appear in the eighth and final season of Dexter as a wealthy international businessman named Miles Foster.
• Guillermo del Toro’s TV series adaptation of his Strain books has landed a couple of familiar faces: Cory Stoll (House of Cards, Salt, The Bourne Legacy) and Kevin Durand (Lost, Legion, Real Steel). Stoll will play the lead role of Dr. Ephraim Goodweather, a CDC doctor who investigates a viral outbreak of vampirism. Durand will play an as-yet-unnamed role of a “second-generation Ukranian-American, a once-solitary rat exterminator who eagerly joins the war against vampires who have invaded New York.”
