We may never get to see a sequel to The Strangers, but there’s not one, but two similarly themed horror movies on the horizon set to hit theaters in wide release: The Purge and You’re Next. It’s not unusual for the bandwagoneers in Hollywood to have competing films with similar concepts coming out within months of each other — Armageddon/Deep Impact, Mission to Mars/Red Planet, Leviathan/Deep Star Six, Paul Blart: Mall Cop/Observe and Report, The Illusionist/The Prestige, Dante’s Peak/Volcano and currently, Olympus Has Fallen/White House Down, to name a few — and it seems that “masked home invaders” is the new hot topic to exploit.
