Women directors have long been behind some of the most thoughtful, genre-bending horror films of the oeuvre, and now a team is working on Black Rose Anthology , a one-hour TV horror series for CW that will be written and directed entirely by women. The anthology series arrives at the CW courtesy of Drew Barrymore and Nancy Juvonen's Flower Films and co-showrunner of Scream: The TV Series Jill Blotevogel, who will pen the pilot episode, according to Deadline .

The coolest item from the film world this week was delivered courtesy of my favourite Canadian director , Denis Villeneuve. In an effort to get us extra amped up about the release of his awesome-looking Blade Runner 2049 in October, Villeneuve released the first of three prequel shorts that have been created to catch fans up on what's happened in the film's world between 2019 and 2049, where Denis'sequel will take place.

Gay Men's Health Crisis will honor multitalented performer Kathy Najimy with the 2017 Howard Ashman Award for her contributions to the LGBT community and the fight against HIV/AIDS. Najimy has been an outspoken advocate for more than three decades and has promoted social justice throughout her career, which includes the films Sister Act and Hocus Pocus and Off-Broadway acts including Kathy & Mo.

The 71-year-old actor starred as the child-killing monster in the 1990 TV mini-series version of Stephen King's 1986 horror novel and despite his many memorable roles Curry is consistently approached by fans of his terrifying alter ego. Speaking to The Guardian newspaper, the English star - who played Dr. Frank-N-Furter in cult classic 'The Rocky Horror Picture Show' - said: "I went out to dinner the other night, and I'm currently in a wheelchair because I had a stroke five years ago.
