For all the scrutiny, hand-wringing and vitriol, you'd think it was about a presidential campaign, not just a kindhearted comedy based on a 32-year-old idea that features four funny women instead of four funny men. But between the Sony hack, a course-shifting death and an elusive movie star, a few internet trolls were decidedly the least of anyone's worries.

From some of the greatest horrors put on screen to sci-fi romances, action heroes and evil fogs, the entertainingly ridiculous and the unnervingly prescient, director John Carpenter and his legendary career have had it all. His brilliantly crafted B-movies have inspired more than just legions of filmmakers from Quentin Tarantino to, well, pretty much any good horror/thriller over the last few years.

That was clearly the case when he was cast for an episode of the TV series Lost , in which he plays a slimy high school principal character who was conceived with him in mind. It was a throwback to the assholes he embodied in Ghostbusters , Real Genius , and the first two Die Hard movies.

At the Ridge Theatre presents "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street," with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and libretto by Hugh Wheeler, July 28-Aug. 13, at the Kentridge High School Performing Arts Center, 12430 SE 208th St. Kent. Jennifer Grajewski, an award-winning director and founder of ART 16 years ago, leads the local community theater's summer production.

Sources have told Variety the actor, known for his roles in Total Recall and In Bruges, is currently in talks to star alongside Kirsten Dunst, Nicole Kidman and Elle Fanning in the film. If Farrell joins the project, he would reportedly star as the injured Yankee solider played by Clint Eastwood in the Don Siegel-directed original.

This morning, Anthony Anderson and Lauren Graham presented the nominations for the 68th EMMY AWARDS from the Wolf Theatre at the Academy's newly-opened Saban Media Center. Television Academy Chairman and CEO Bruce Rosenblum also joined Anderson and Graham at the nominations ceremony.

As I referenced in my review of Stranger Things , the new Netflix series debuting Friday, the opening credits quickly help set the stage for the show and its expertly done homage to the films of the 1980s. With the graphic imagery of the logo to the music, which feels straight from an 80s John Carpenter film, the mood is created for a show that feels right out of the era it's set in.
