Actor Anton Yelchin, best known for playing the young Russian starship navigator Chekov in the rebooted series of "Star Trek" movies, was killed on Sunday when accidentally crushed by his own car against a driveway wall, police said. The 18th annual Cape Cod film event presented audience awards for best narrative feature to Anne Fontaine's 'The Innocents' and for documentary to 'The Music of Strangers' and 'Political Animals' in a tie. When he was late to a rehearsal, Yelchin's friends reportedly found him pinned between his car and a brick mailbox attached to a security gate at his home at around 1 a.m. Sunday morning with the car engine still running and the car in neutral. TMZ was the first to report the news, which was later confirmed to the Associated Press by Yelchin's publicist.

Actor Anton Yelchin , probably best known for his roles in the JJ Abrams -produced Star Trek movies, was tragically killed early Sunday morning in a car crash. TMZ broke the news that 27-year-old Yelchin died after getting pinned by his own car.

As superlatives go, that's the one that comes immediately to mind stepping into the performance hall last week at the new Hancher Auditorium in Iowa City. Before the Iowa River rose from its banks to sink the stage and ruin the original, which opened in 1972, Hancher was a place where hundreds of thousands of people had gone to enjoy about any type of performing art you could imagine.
