Amy Adams has signed on to appear in the small-screen adaptation of Gone Girl author Gillian Flynn's debut novel, according to reports. The American Hustle star will play reporter Camille Preaker in Sharp Objects, who returns to her hometown after a short stay at a psychiatric hospital and begins investigating a murder involving two young girls.

Unlike the original novel, which was published in 1818, this contemporary film adaption begins with the creature, named Adam by its creators, waking up in their laboratory.
