I wonder if Peter Benchley was inspired by this sea monster tale when he wrote "Jaws," because it certainly shares some similarities. We do know it influenced his " Creature " series for ABC, but in reality this is one of my favorite creature features of all time.

Stephen Sondheim 's macabre musical thriller Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street receives its highly anticipated San Francisco Opera premiere in a production featuring a cast of notable operatic stars and performed with Sondheim's original score for the lyric stage. Beginning tonight, September 12 at the War Memorial Opera House, American baritone Brian Mulligan and American mezzo-soprano Stephanie Blythe take on the respective roles of the tortured barber Sweeney Todd and resourceful meat-pie shop proprietor Mrs. Lovett.

Actor JAKE GYLLENHAAL has set his sights on returning to Broadway to show off his singing talents in a new musical. The Nightcrawler star won rave reviews for his vocal efforts earlier this summer when he featured in a limited Off Broadway run of Little Shop of Horrors, in which he portrayed loner Seymour Krelborn, alongside Ellen Greene, who originated the role of florist Audrey in both the 1982 New York stage production and the 1986 film adaptation.

A couple of years ago, a fellow film critic and I tried to answer a question: What was the definitive film of the 1990s? There were different strains of zeitgeist floating around in the '90s, and different films captured them. High on our list were Quentin Tarantino's Pulp Fiction and Oliver Stone's Natural Born Killers , two films from 1994 that epitomised the decade's fascination with amoral violence.
