Hollywood's appetite for sequels and reboots shows no sign of weakening, but "Mad Max: Fury Road" is one instance in which that's a very good thing, critics agree. The film, opening today, is a return to the violent post-apocalyptic Australian Outback first seen in writer-director George Miller's 1979 "Mad Max."

Comic book fans weren't the only ones who made it to the opening day of the annual Motor City Comic Con on Friday. There also were Jedi, Avengers, Ghostbusters and many more costumed characters unafraid to let loose their inner fanboy or fangirl.

Several of this week's movies do that: One brings a minor character from an earlier movie up to the lead role, another re-imagines a mystery from long ago.

Fox studios has signed up Josh Boone to co-write and direct the latest new project from the X-Men Universe. Boone shot to the top of every studio's hit-list when his small indie romantic drama, The Fault In Our Stars, became a massive global box-office smash.

'What Fresh Hell Is This??' New Promo For Fox's SCREAM QUEENS, From The Creator Of GLEE And AMERICAN HORROR STORY!! Its creators are Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk, who earlier collaborated to create both Fox's "Glee" and FX's "American Horror Story." Make believe Miller had never found the little-known Australian actor Mel Gibson, who would go on to make the role of solitary ex-cop Max Rockatansky an iconic film figure.

The 41-year-old actress has signed on to reprise her role as vampire and werewolf killer Selene in the next instalment of the sci-fi action franchise, said the Hollywood Reporter. Divergent star Theo James, who appeared in 2012's Underworld: Awakening, is expected to return to play David, Selene's vampire ally.
