Here are several recently announced theatrical release dates for upcoming horror/suspense movies coming out this fall (or thereabouts):
August 29:
- The Day: This thriller stars Shawn Ashmore, Shannyn Sossamon and Dominic Monaghan as post-apocalyptic survivors fighting for their lives as the farmhouse in which they’re hiding comes under siege by a sadistic gang of attackers.

More than a year ago, Shia LaBeouf signed on to star in the yet-to-be-written big-screen adaptation of Horns, the bestselling novel by Joe Hill (AKA Stephen King's son) about a man who, upon suspicion that he murdered his girlfriend, begins to sprout horns out of his head. LaBeouf dropped out, and now comes word that Daniel Radcliffe, fresh off his turn in the surprise hit ghost story The Woman in Black, will take his place in the lead role. The script is now written, and Alexandrea Aja (High Tension, The Hills Have Eyes, Piranha 3D) will direct the film, with shooting scheduled to begin this fall.

The low-budget indie Midnight Son is a vampire film, but you won't find bats, crosses, garlic, fangs or most typical cinematic bloodsucker trappings, but you will find a darn good movie that takes a realistic (as much as can be expected) look at what it might be like to actually turn into a vampire. It's been a year and a half since most of the movies in the first After Dark Originals series were released, and even though the zombie flick Re-Kill STILL has yet to see the light of day, After Dark Films is moving ahead with round two of the series. We got a glimpse of Dark Circles a few months ago, and now we have word on two more of the eight planned entries: Asylum and Red Clover. And yes, the latter is what it sounds like: a killer leprechaun film. But wait, it's not just any ol' killer leprechaun film; it's apparently the same Billy Zane movie that aired on SyFy earlier this year as Leprechaun's Revenge. So...what gives? Darned if I know. I hope this is just a mistake and not an attempt to repackage a TV movie, but after the ridiculous delay in releasing Re-Kill, I'm beginning to lose faith in After Dark's decision making.
