Aja has made a name for himself helming gory fright flicks like The Hills Have Eyes, Piranha 3D and Mirrors (all remakes), plus High Tension back in his native France, in addition to writing and producing P2 and the upcoming Maniac remake.

Unfortunately, the recent legacy of the 1973 cult favorite The Wicker Man has been dominated by the so-bad-it’s-good 2006 remake starring an over-caffeinated Nicolas Cage. Now, Robin Hardy, the director of the original film, has returned to set things straight with The Wicker Tree, an adaptation of the novel Cowboys for Christ he wrote in — wait for it — 2006. (The book came out before the remake, thus blowing the theory that Hardy was so scarred by the movie that he sat down and pounded out a novel.)
