2011 wasn’t the best year for horror/suspense movies, but there were few downright awful wide releases (ahem, Season of the Witch). Except for a select few elite franchises, most horror movie sequels end up going the direct-to-video route by the time the third entry rolls around. Now, after a pair of wide theatrical releases, it’s Hostel‘s turn. And for better or worse (mostly worse), it’s going to Vegas, baby! Read about it in my review of Hostel: Part III.

This week, a pair of entertaining foreign genre films make their TV debut on Thursday, December 29: the Belgian horror-comedy “mockumentary” Vampires airs at 1:05 AM ET/PT on the Sundance Channel, while the Uruguayan “single shot” chiller The Silent House (La Casa Muda) (which already has an American remake lined up to release this year) airs at 4:20 AM ET/PT on HBO Latino.

A few weeks ago, a trailer for Ridley Scott’s eagerly anticipated Alien semi-prequel Prometheus leaked online, only to be quickly shut down by Fox, but now we finally get a look at the official trailer — with the studio’s blessing. From what I can recall, it looks similar, but not identical, to the leaked trailer — of course, with much clearer video quality than the grainy bootleg.
