2009’s Laid to Rest introduced one of the more memorable slasher villains in recent memory (not necessarily a high compliment, given the contenders) in ChromeSkull. Now, we have the inevitable sequel, which, like the masked killer himself, is more flash than substance. Read about it in my review of ChromeSkull: Laid to Rest 2.

Although those of you unfamiliar with the 1971 film Straw Dogs will probably find the remake a hoot, fans of the original will no doubt find plenty of fodder to bolster complaints about the spate of modern Hollywood remakes. I can see both sides; while the remake is a solidly entertaining yarn, there's definitely something lost in the translation. Read about it in my review of Straw Dogs.

Anchor Bay Picks Up 13 Tzameti Remake for Fall Release

The long-delayed US release of 13, a remake of the acclaimed 2005 Georgian thriller 13 Tzameti, is finally set. Originally set up at Paramount Vantage, the remake has been picked up by Anchor Bay for a limited theatrical run starting October 28, followed by the DVD/Blu-ray a couple of weeks later on November 8 (Let’s hope they upgrade the sketchy cover art before then.).

Squint your eyes and you might mistake this photo for sparkly Twilight vampires, but it's witches this time around who do the sparkling, courtesy of the new supernatural CW teen show The Secret Circle. It debuts tonight after The Vampire Diaries and is based on a series of books by Diaries author L.J. Smith. Twilight fans might notice a few parallels in the plot: a teen girl moves to a small town and finds herself wanted by a group of local supernatural types. Get to know the characters before the witching season begins. (Also check out what's to come in Season 3 of The Vampire Diaries.)
