Locke & Key, a TV adaptation of the Joe Hill (Stephen King's son) comic book, wasn't picked up by Fox for its fall schedule and despite reports of it being considered by CW and SyFy, it appears to be dead in the water...Or is it? Publisher IDW has arranged a screening of the pilot episode at this year's Comic-Con on July 22, ostensibly to "show you just what a void there will be on your TVs this fall," but you have to wonder if the company hopes it kick-starts something more.

Some casting news of note for several upcoming projects:
- Scott Foley (Scream 3, Grey's Anatomy) will play a major role on True Blood that kicks off in this season's final episode and continues into next season. (Can you say "cliffhanger"?) According to TV Line, Foley will play Patrick, "a tough and ruggedly attractive old army buddy of Terry's." No doubt there's more there than meets the eye...
- Idris Elba (Obsessed, Prom Night, The Unborn) has been hired to take over the role in Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim that was originally developed for Tom Cruise. The film, about humans using giant robots to fight off giant monsters, sounds a bit like Cloverfield meets Transformers.
- Veteran character actor Pruitt Taylor Vince (Drive Angry, Constantine, Identity) has joined the cast of The Walking Dead for the upcoming season, playing, according to TV Guide, an "easygoing but racist survivor." I guess he can take the place of Merle, the non-easygoing racist from the first season.

The geek shall inherit the earth — or at least the horror/suspense genre — in a pair of upcoming films from Magnolia Pictures. In The Perfect Host, receiving a limited theatrical release on July 1 (currently on demand), David Hyde Pierce (Frasier) plays out of character as a seemingly mild-mannered dinner host who turns out to be quite the opposite when a bank robber on the lamb tries to use his place as a hideout. Check out photos and the trailer.
