Some new theatrical release dates of note:

  • Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D: The latest entry in the long-running cannibal series lands on October 5, 2012.
  • Pacific Rim: Guillermo del Toro's robots-versus-monsters extravaganza hits screens on July 12, 2013.
  • Contagion: Steven Soderbergh's all-star thriller about a worldwide viral outbreak has moved up from October 21 to September 9, 2011.
  • The Host: The adaptation of Twilight author Stephenie Meyer's 2008 alien invasion novel arrives March 29, 2013.
  • The Skin I Live In: The latest from Pedro Almodovar stars Antonio Banderas as a surgeon who creates a synthetic skin in hopes of helping his burn-victim wife. It hits theaters starting October 7, 2011.
  • The Shrine: Journalists investigating the disappearance of an American backpacker encounter ritual sacrifice in a Polish village in this horror flick opening July 15, 2011.
  • R.I.P.D.: Ryan Reynolds stars in this adaptation of a comic book as a slain cop who joins a team of undead police officers working for the Rest in Peace Department to find the man who killed him. Look for it on June 28, 2013.

Cyrus: Mind of a Serial Killer is a direct-to-video serial killer exploration that offers little new to the genre, but it does boast a notable cast (Danielle Harris, Lance Henriksen, Tiffany Shepis, Rae Dawn Chong, Doug Jones, Brian Krause, Patricia Belcher) that goes a long way to selling the generic material. Dimension Extreme, the genre home video label on Dimension Films (which is, in turn, part of The Weinstein Company), released a string of high-profile horror releases in 2007 and 2008 -- including Mother of Tears, Diary of the Dead, Black Sheep, Inside, Teeth, Rogue, Eden Lake, Storm Warning, The Killing Gene and sequels to Pulse and Feast -- but abruptly ceased its hectic release schedule early in 2009. Now, like a zombie rising from the grave, Dimension Extreme is back!
