The star, most recognizable from his dramatic roles in Flags of Our Fathers and Kinsey, will headline the film from director Timur Bekmambetov…

Just as it was about to hit screens as part of the After Dark Originals, the zombie flick Re-Kill has been yanked from the lineup — not because it isn’t ready, but rather because After Dark Films deemed it so good that it deserves a wider release on its own. No date was announced for Re-Kill, nor how wide the release will be (presumably more than the 10 theaters where the After Dark Originals will open), but this certainly piques my interest to find out just how good this movie really is. If this turns out to be just a marketing ploy, then bravo, you got me.

At the Sundance Film Festival this week, director Kevin Smith put his horror film Red State up for auction…then proceeded to buy it himself. For 20 bucks. The display epitomized Smith’s unusual approach to the movie’s distribution, which he will handle himself under the SModcast Pictures banner. But before Red State‘s official release date of October 19 (the 17th anniversary of his debut, Clerks), he will showcase it in a nationwide tour running from March 5 to April 4 in select cities. If all goes well, the tour might be expanded beyond April; you can even request it hit a venue near you.
