Huppert’s hope

Posted by Horror Movies News on February 20, 2017

Isabelle Huppert may have an Oscar nomination and a Golden Globe for her role in Elle - but she very nearly wasn't in it at all, as the French film was originally intended to be a Hollywood production. Dutch director Paul Verhoeven, the maker of hits such as Robocop and Total Recall, says that the film was supposed to be in English, but believes that the plot "goes against the grain of American movies".

This Week In Trailers: Mean Dreams, Betting on Zero, Jawbone, Return…

Posted by Horror Movies News on February 19, 2017

Trailers are an under-appreciated art form insofar that many times they're seen as vehicles for showing footage, explaining films away, or showing their hand about what moviegoers can expect. Foreign, domestic, independent, big budget: What better way to hone your skills as a thoughtful moviegoer than by deconstructing these little pieces of advertising? This week we see that Chet has moved on from bullying Wyatt to just killing people, take another lap around that Herbalife doc, marvel at Ray Winstone , and then extol the perverted virtues of Lloyd Kaufman .

‘Big Little Lies’: HBO’s Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman series is more than melodrama…

Posted by Horror Movies News on February 18, 2017

The new HBO limited series " Big Little Lies," which boasts a starry cast headed by Reese Witherspoon , Nicole Kidman, Shailene Woodley and Laura Dern , is an unlikely, at times brilliant, blending of two TV conventions. On one hand, "Big Little Lies," adapted by David E. Kelley from Liane Moriarty's bestselling novel, revels in escapist images of what life is like for the white, affluent set, as if "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" moved to the seaside community of Monterey, California.

Studley Operatic Society will be performing Sweeney Todd at Redditch’s Palace Theatre next month

Posted by Horror Movies News on February 18, 2017

Unanimously acclaimed by the critics as one of Stephen Sondheim's most powerful scores, this black comedy concerns the infamous homicidal career of Sweeney, the unjustly exiled barber who returns to 19th century London seeking revenge against the lecherous judge who coveted his young wife and falsely imprisoned him. Cheated of his revenge against the Judge, Sweeney's thirst for blood soon expands to include his unfortunate customers, and - with the aid of his razor - he exacts a far more terrible revenge, cheerfully helped by Mrs Lovett, who is delighted to give new life to her flavourless meat pies.
