We now have a good look at the "beast" in Beastly, the upcoming Beauty and the Beast re-telling (based on a young adult novel by Alex Flinn) that will likely be aimed at the Twilight crowd. (Interestingly, it's set to hit theaters on July 30, 2010, just a month after the third Twilight pic, Eclipse.)

The title character, played by Alex Pettyfer, certainly isn't what we've come to expect from a "beast." He's not hairy like the Ron Perlman TV show or the Disney cartoon, and he appears to be mostly just tattooed with a few scars; nothing worth hiding in the shadows about. I guess that's what they call "Hollywood ugly."

It's clear that Whoopi Goldberg isn't alone in her belief that what Roman Polanski did to a thirteen-year-old girl in 1977 wasn't that serious, for a growing list of Hollywood's "finest" are coming out in support of the film director while campaigning for his release.

ChiZine Publications Expands Its Distribution Options

Posted by Paul Puglisi on October 1, 2009 TORONTO, Ontario (August 31, 2009) –
Independent speculative genre publisher ChiZine Publications announces it is expanding its distribution options to increase the availability of its books through various channels.

Signing a deal with The Literary Press Group of Canada (LPG), all of ChiZine Publications’ titles are now available via the LPG sales force.  In addition, this deal results in all of ChiZine Publications’ now being available through Amazon and Chapters/Indigo.

In addition, The World More Full of Weeping by bestseller Robert J. Wiersema (Before I Wake) will be placed in airport bookstores across the country.

Finally, as a result of its growing success and in an effort to remain competitive, ChiZine Publications has made all of its titles available through its site with a 30% discount off the cover price with transactions handled via PayPal.

“This is a major step forward,” says Brett Alexander Savory, co-publisher of ChiZine Publications along with Sandra Kasturi.  “For any small press, distribution is a challenge.  Signing with the LPG gives us a national sales force selling and promoting our books.  Having one of our books available in airport bookstores is an opportunity for exposure a lot of genre publishers might not get.”  Speaking on the discount through the site: “Amazon and Chapters offer discounts, so we need to be competitive with that.  Sure, Amazon has warehouses and deals and membership

BLACK MERCY FALLS by Fulbright & Hawkes Coming From Bloodletting Press

Posted by Paul Puglisi on October 1, 2009 Christopher Fulbright and Angeline Hawkes are proud to announce that their new horror novella, BLACK MERCY FALLS, has sold to Bloodletting Press for publication under their Morning Star imprint in late 2010.

About the book…

The small Colorado town of Black Mercy Falls has a ghastly past.

The folks who live there just call it Mercy Falls. And while the “black” part comes from the massive waterfall above the town whose waters run thick with black iron oxide, there are hushed suggestions that something diabolic is responsible. Tense whispers of the locals connect a list of missing children and teens with the old tale of Nehemiah Jacob, a mid-1800s pioneer who threw his deformed inbred children over the falls thinking that their deformities were caused by demonic possession, hoping the waters would cleanse their souls and release them to heaven. When he named the place Mercy Falls all those years ago, some say the waters were crystal clear. And when the darkness came, it came to stay. Is the waterfall haunted?  Possessed? Or is the town cursed with something that stalks its children by night?

Now the town’s namesake waterfall and the land that it’s on have been bequeathed to Lance Evans by his estranged uncle. But when Lance brings his pregnant wife and son to explore the inheritance, they scarcely have a chance to marvel at its

Polanski should pay

Posted by Horror Movies News on October 1, 2009

THE life story of Academy Award-winning director Roman Polanski has as many dark, ambiguous, mysterious twists as his most celebrated films, but his arrest in Switzerland on Saturday for a 32-year-old offense is much more straightforward.
