It’s been rumored for over a year and a half, but it looks like there will indeed be an American version of the Japanese manga (comic) Death Note. Perhaps even more interesting is the fact that the project will serve as the second directorial effort from Shane Black, the once-golden boy screenwriter who ignited bidding wars for scripts like The Last Boyscout, The Long Kiss Goodnight and Last Action Hero (not to mention Lethal Weapon and The Monster Squad) and who made his directorial debut in 2005 with the great Kiss Kiss Ban Bang. Unfortunately, unlike Kiss Kiss, Black won’t be writing Death Note.
