Carrie Finishes Third at Box Office

The remake Carrie, which presumably built up anticipation since being postponed from the spring release schedule, failed to generate the type of box office business you'd expect from the only horror movie receiving a wide theatrical release in October. It opened with an estimated $17 million this past weekend, a respectable number but one that's far below the previous reigning Halloween horror franchises Paranormal Activity and Saw, which regularly topped $30 million this time of year. Carrie's take is also less than the Evil Dead remake from earlier this year, which had similar expectations but opened with nearly $9 million more in fewer theaters. Far from a flop, though, Carrie should easily recoup its $30 million production budget during its theatrical run.
