I, Frankenstein made its bid this past weekend for being the first flop of 2014 (even more so than Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit), opening with a mere $8.3 million -- despite elevated 3-D ticket prices. While that's about the same amount that Devil's Due earned in its opening weekend last week, I, Frankenstein cost nearly 10 times as much ($65 million vs. $7 million) and thus is more appropriate labeled "the bomb" (in the bad way). Hopefully, the notoriously overreactive Hollywood movie industry won't take the disappointing performances of I, Frankenstein, Devil's Due and Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones as a sign that audiences are souring on horror.
