The Dutch film Borgman hadn't been on my radar of movies to check out in 2014, but with the recent release of the first US trailer, it's shot up near the top of my must-sees. From the first striking image to the final even more striking visual, it looks wonderfully weird. The story follows a charming vagrant who worms his way into the home of an upper-class family and begins to assert an increasingly dark influence. It's been described as a darkly humorous fable reminiscent of the works of Michael Haneke (Funny Games, The White Ribbon, Caché) and Giorgos Lanthimos (Dogtooth), which makes me want to see it all the more. We'll all get a chance when Drafthouse Films releases it on June 6.
