In case you haven't heard, this is the year to celebrate the Back to the Future trilogy. Between it being the 30th anniversary of the release of the original and also the year that much of Back to the Future Part II is set in, it's officially a momentous occasion for both fans and brands, including the movies' studio, Universal, plus Nike, Pepsi and other companies, to join in the fun.

Our nation's movie boogeymen have been around for a long time. We've seen some of the classic movie monsters Dracula, Frankenstein, the Wolf Man and the Mummy - so many times they just aren't scary any more; with no element of surprise, the bogeymen are now our buddies.

As a fan of director Jesse Thomas Cook's Monster Brawl and someone who lives in awe of writer Tony Burgess's work, I gotta say that the duo's upcoming horror flick The Hexecutioners sounds ridiculously intriguing. The combination of a controversial subject with sinister occult horror is a recipe for terror, and from the looks of the trailer, Cook and Burgess have put together something that demands my attention.

There's the nostalgic glow of ABC sitcom “The Goldbergs,” the goofiness of Netflix revival “Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp,” the Cold War tensions of FX's “The Americans,” and coming later this month on ABC the crime thriller “Wicked City,” set on the Sunset Strip in 1983.

A free screening of George A. Romero's "Dawn of the Dead" takes place Saturday night at Cadillac Square in downtown Detroit. Every Saturday night in October in downtown Detroit there will be free screenings of horror films.
