Before their brand became synonymous with Gothic horror fantasies dripping with promises of Freudian sex and death, Hammer Films steadily pumped out a series of quality British melodramas, mysteries and Hitchcockian thrillers, most of them produced economically in black and white and exported internationally by major studios with little fanfare. But in circling back on these early curiosities - many of which were produced well into the early 1960s - one can find some remarkable motion pictures, many of which are bold, daring and way ahead of their time.

As I'm not a huge fan of reboots, my expectations for Kong: Skull Island were not that high.There was also no real fanfare for Skull Island in the UK and it sort of just appeared. Having said that.

Some quick news is coming out from Variety regarding the Nicolas Winding Refn produced remake of the William Lustig classic, Maniac Cop . The site reports that the film is set to shoot this summer in Los Angeles, with Wild Bunch on board to handle world sales.

The move is a stunning revelation for fans of the series, with the US network Showtime trying to reveal as little as possible before the reboot launches in May. First peek: Twin Peaks director David Lynch with Sheryl Lee , Kyle MacLachlan and Sherilyn Fenn . But the three special edition covers of Entertainment Weekly offer fans the first real glimpse at what the characters from the iconic early-90s mystery series look like in the updated version of the show.

The studio won a bidding war for rights to the reboot in early 2015, with Andrew Rona and Alex Heineman's The Picture Company set to produce. Kurt Russell starred as the iconic one-eyed anti-hero Snake Plissken in the original Dystopian action film, released by Avco Embassy in 1981.
