While not as well-remembered as the filmmaker's subsequent aliens-on-Earth all-timer, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial , Close Encounters remains a sci-fi classic on its own merits, with a touching story of lost-and-found souls, state-of-the-art effects, and a typically spectacular John Williams score. Close Encounters also is responsible for launching one of Hollywood most enduring side careers - R2-D2 as the king of cameos.

He was mistakenly declared dead by Richard Wilkins on the same day it was announced that Michael Jackson and Farah Fawcett had passed away in 2009. Despite Richard declaring that Jeff 'fell from a cliff to his death while filming in New Zealand , ' he brushed it off saying: 'it could have happened to anyone.'

After bursting onto the scene - and winning the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival - at age 26 with 1989's Sex, Lies, and Videotape , he has made a litany of unorthodox movies, including the surreal pseudo-biopic Kafka and films like Schizopolis and Bubble , which defy traditional narrative structure.

Sidney Lumet's 1974 masterpiece Murder on the Orient Express was everything a lavish murder mystery on a train should be: a tasty example of pure escapist entertainment done with a modicum of style, wit and elegance, sumptuously mounted, crisply and artfully directed and gorgeously photographed. Brimming with rich performances, the all-star cast was headed by Albert Finney as the quirky Belgian detective Hercule Poirot, investigating another murder most foul by Agatha Christie, with 13 suspects that included Sean Connery, Ingrid Bergman, Lauren Bacall, Vanessa Redgrave, Anthony Perkins, Jacqueline Bisset and Rachel Roberts.

Earlier this summer in July, Palme d'Or and Oscar winner Quentin Tarantino had announced the development of his ninth feature film : a movie revolving around the infamous Charles Manson family cult and their terrorizing in Hollywood in 1969. Reportedly, the focus is not going to be on Manson himself but orbiting him as it was also announced that Margot Robbie is slated to play his most notorious victim, the late actress Sharon Tate .

"My Friend Dahmer" focuses on Jeffrey Dahmer's high school years, when it might still have been possible to avoid a murderous, cannibalistic path. Based on ex-schoolmate John "Derf" Backderf's 2012 graphic novel, this thoughtful, non-sensationalistic film focuses on the nurture-vs.-nature argument.
