Bestselling writer Joyce Maynard will discuss and sign copies of her latest memoir, "The Best of Us," at the Oakland Public Library's Montclair Branch, 1687 Mountain Blvd., at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 9. Maynard was originally scheduled to appear at the Montclair library on Dec. 12, but the event was delayed by the city strike. "The Best of Us" tells the story of the author's discovery of her true partner, Jim Barringer, in mid-life only to lose him to a battle with cancer.

However, the past 12 months has also seen a handful of notable splits and divorces, from Hollywood duo Chris Pratt and Anna Faris to Love Island champions Kem Cetinay and Amber Davies, who called time on their prize-winning relationship before the year was out.
