JURASSIC PARK star LAURA DERN made an awful first impression with a young SCOTT BAIO when she attempted to play it cool around him after landing a role in 1980 movie FOXES. It was the actress' first job and she admits her awkwardness on set went into overdrive when she spotted the teen pin-up for the first time - and her dog didn't help matters.

The cult classic book of young adult horror Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark has had a film adaptation in the works for awhile, but that movie has had a big change in its creative team that will result in a very different film than the one that would have been. Deadline reports that CBS Films has ditched the people behind the popular Saw slasher films for the writer John August, who's best known for collaborating with Tim Burton.

One huge sequel arriving in May 2015 will be the follow-up to 2012's a capella comedy "Pitch Perfect," with the full cast back and Elizabeth Banks behind the director's chair. It's just one example of how Hollywood has proved that massive franchises aren't all bad, and the form has become so commonplace that studios are able to plan their movie release dates years into the future.

Scott VanDyke as Scrooge and Truman Harris as Tiny Tim in the Monday/Wednesday/Friday cast of "Scrooge" at CenterPoint Legacy Theatre. The show runs through Dec. 18. For theater companies deciding to stage a one-time holiday production, it can be difficult to find a show that hasn't been done recently.
