Longtime horror distributor Lionsgate, which currently has Texas Chainsaw 3D playing in theaters, already has its January 2014 genre offering lined up: Ghosts, which will open on January 10. As the title (formerly Jessabelle) implies, it’s a haunted house flick with a fairly standard storyline: a young woman staying in her father’s old Southern mansion after the death of her fiancé encounters a ghostly presence. Kevin Greutert (Saw VI, Saw 3D) directs a largely unknown cast, with the hardest working horror producer in showbiz Jason Blum (Paranormal Activity, Insidious, Sinister) on production duty. The most unexpected participant is writer Robert Ben Garant, who heretofore has been known exclusively for his comedy work — as an actor on Reno 911!, as the director of Balls of Fury and as the writer of Night at the Museum, The Pacifier, Taxi, Let’s Go to Prison and Herbie Fully Loaded. (Hey, they can’t all be winners.)
